Wild & Remote Boat Life In The Fiordlands

We’re back on the water! And lucky us, mother nature has given us a rare winter weather window.  We have exactly 24 hours of ideal conditions for exploring New Zealand’s Fiordlands.

Wild & Remote Boat Life In The Fiordlands

We’re back on the water and, as you can tell by the thumbnail, it’s not a big boat…and it’s not warm.  But it is the best vessel for exploring the more remote fingers of the Fiordlands.  And lucky us, mother nature has given us a rare winter weather window.  We have exactly 24 hours of ideal conditions for exploring New Zealand’s wettest, oldest, and biggest national park.

So gear up, because we’re headed off the grid and deep into the wilds of the Fiordlands.

Our Friend Joshua

Ini and Joshua will soon be opening their home to guests and you can stay with them too!  This isn’t a sponsored plug, simply an opportunity to connect with a fellow adventurer should you find yourself on the South Island of New Zealand (and hopefully you do).  You can see their lodge here: gonewiththewynns.com/sheep-farming-new-zealand

DOC Huts

There are over 950 unique huts throughout New Zealand.  They are managed by the Department Of Conservation and we highly recommend making a proper kiwi trek and booking at least one night in a hut when you make it to NZ.

What’s With The MAP?

This is a free website and app from Roadtrippers. It’s been our go-to app for discovering weird roadside attractions (hello Cano’s Castle) and wild places to camp (Trona Pinnacles).  The free version is fantastic and packed with all the essential features.  But, we have the Plus account because it’s better for an extended trip (like this one).  Plus unlocks features like live traffic, notes for each stop, collaborating with friends, and offline maps (handy during the trip since the internet is intermittent).
