No Boat, What Next?

The game of life often takes unexpected turns, and our journey becomes something entirely different from what we imagined. But this is more like a complete U-turn. One that requires us to return to start or at least the last known point of certainty and begin again.
If you've watched our latest video, you already know the big news: we've sold our boat back to HH. It wasn't an easy decision, and the move has been equally as challenging. The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions, logistics, and adjustments as we've transitioned to...well, nomads in transition.
Moving Our Emotional Baggage
Moving (be it a family home or a boat) isn't just about relocating possessions—it's about saying goodbye to a home, a lifestyle, and in many ways, a dream. We've experienced the full spectrum of emotions: disappointment, relief, sadness, and even moments of unexpected peace. There were tears as we carried the last boxes off, remembering all the memories we'd created in that small, floating space we called home.
But through it all, we've held onto what matters most: our resilience, our gratitude for the experiences we've had, and our excitement for what's still to come.
What Happens Now?
The question we've been asking ourselves (and the one we've been asked countless times): "What's next?"
The honest answer is: we're taking it day by day. While this wasn't part of our original plan, we're embracing this detour with the same spirit of adventure that led us to boat life in the first place.
Here's what we know for sure:
- We're taking a breath. Before rushing into any new decisions, we're giving ourselves permission to not have a plan. This past year has been mentally, emotionally, and financially draining, and we need time to recharge.
- We're still drawn to the water. The sailing bug hasn't left us! We'll be getting out on the water with friends while we figure out our next move.
- We're exploring boats. We'll be looking at a wide variety of boats and considering various paths forward, but we're committed to making deliberate, thoughtful choices rather than reactive ones.
While we're not rushing to buy a boat, we're excited to get back out on the water soon. We miss the wind in the sails and the horizon stretching before us. It's what feels most like home, regardless of which boat we're on.
Finding Gratitude in Change
If there's one thing boat life taught us, it's adaptability. Plans change, weather shifts, and sometimes you have to chart a new course entirely.
We're incredibly grateful for:
- The amazing community that has supported us through this transition
- The countless lessons we learned living aboard
- The freedom to choose our next adventure
- The perspective that comes from weathering unexpected storms
Looking Forward
In the meantime we are going to be stretching our sea legs, reconnecting with old friends, slowly building out our van and keeping our options open as we navigate this next chapter.
Thank you for being part of our journey—the smooth sails and the rough waters alike. We can't wait to share the next adventure with you, whatever form it takes.
