5 Foods We Miss The Most Sailing Around The World

For the past three years, we’ve been sailing further and further away from the good ol’ USA.  While adventure and curiosity pull us further from our homeland, there are some things we miss: Friends, family, unlimited fast Wi-Fi, and food.

Don’t get me wrong, exploring the world and indulging in exotic culinary experiences is exhilarating (I had no idea I was allergic to mango sap and taro!), but the lack of some foods can make home feel very far away.

The first stop we made after landing in California…the grocery store.  Here are the five foods we couldn’t wait to get our salty fingers on.

What foods do you miss the most when you’re away from home?  Let us know in the comments below…and don’t forget to tell us what you want to see at the Boat Show!

If you want to catch up with us in Florida (or anywhere) here’s a list of our meetup locations: gonewiththewynns.com/lets-meet-up

Our Fave Foods

Hello there! I honestly don’t know what to say, so I am going to tell you a bunch of random facts instead. I'm a fish eating vegetarian who hates spiders and loves snakes. I almost never took vacations growing up. I wanted to be Pippi Longstocking (still do). I misspell about every other word I write and still struggle with grammar. I love splurging on a good high tea (which is really hard to find these days). And whatever you do, don’t tell me I can’t do something, because then I'll HAVE to do it!

From one Texan to another- I really enjoy watching ya’ll! You both are inspiring. I have two questions.
You mentioned making yogurt. Would you please share your recipe? Also, I would love your recipe for your “Nikkiolata”?
We purchased your grill and griddle for our parents’ for Christmas.

I walked into The DIVINO GELATO CAFE in Waukesha, WI, asked for Ice cream and about had my head handed to me by a Gelato snob. So allow me to pass on the snobbery and say Talenti is not ice cream, IT’S GELATO! (SEE: https://www.rd.com/food/fun/whats-the-difference-between-gelato-and-ice-cream/).

As a US expat, I can totally relate. Visited home last year after a 5 year stretch, and I was overwhelmed with all the choice at the grocery stores. Great craft beers to look forward to whenever you make it here to New Zealand though, thankfully. 🙂 It’s really taken off here over the past several years.

You guys are amazing. Through your article, you make me sail with you. Being foodie, I also love to put more food packets in my luggage. Mr. Romeo is getting naughtier with time. I have just started reading your post back a couple of months, but I am a huge fan of your articles now. Thanks. Keep posting your thoughts…

What happened to Jason screaming out that PRO Trump Chant, “USA, USA, USA,!!”. I remember Nikki calling Jason an idiot for making that chant. What happened to freedom of speech? No reason to edit out, “USA,USA,USA!!”.

They’re Marxists you could see the look on her face she wanted to throw him in the gulag. But then they dive and chase plastic bags around so what can you expect? Hoping they get the red pill eventually but the’re isolated from all the bull shit on that boat so I’m not holding my breath. That and some people are just commies and you can’t fix it ever. May Kek find it in his heart to guide them to the truth.

I’ll bring a bottle and recipe to the just cats meet up. Speaking of which do you have any idea what the schedule is at just Cats ? Id like to make sure I don’t miss anything, cause i probably wont be there all day. Also, are you still doing a meet up afterwards ? Any idea what, where ?
I’d love to hear more about the container you sent to tonga. When we built in Costa Rica we had quite a interesting time shipping and receiving our container.

    Hi NIkki and Jason,
Am thoroughly enjoying your channel. Only came across it a few weeks back and trying to catch up on all the happenings. I’ve always dreamed about sailing the world and your show is helping me live that, it’s just awesome, the best reality TV I’ve ever seen by far.
I’m hoping you guys might be able to visit Australia after your stop in New Zealand – I know there would be some great cruising up the East Coast of Aus in the Whitsunday’s and Great Barrier Reef which would be awesome to see you visit.

As for a boat show question:
I’d like to see you guys do a short interview with Ken, your boat sales guy – he seems like a knowledgeable and helpful bloke. Perhaps you could ask him to show you his “ideal” world cruising cat, and then his opinion of a “this will do just right fine” cruising cat. In other words, what is the latest top of the line cruising cat out there, and what is the affordable version that can do almost everything but on a budget. I would like to see yours and his take on that.

    Thanks,
    Grant.

You guys are great and I am laughing with you. I am so glad you are home enjoying the best of Texas and/or California.
I am dabbling with increasing my veggie intake. I took notes about the the Field Roast, Veggie Sausage, Chipotle Flavor. I do not remember seeing Stubbs BBQ sauce so, I wrote that down too. Instead of my favorite Half Baked, B & J, I’ll check out the Talante. I always like trying different things.
At the Boat Show. Electric boats would be great as I am always seeking info. on decarbonization lately. I am curious to know what you and Jason are interested in, boat wise?
I miss seeing the cats. I am wondering how they like the indoors of a house or on a leash outside rather than the familiarity of Curiosities inside? Enjoy. Kind regards,

The chocolate beer float sounds lovely! Unfortunately I’m going to need to wait a few days as I’ve been sick in bed all day. But as soon as I can tolerate ice cream or beer individually I’m on it. Hope you enjoy all your food!

We arrived in Rarotonga Dec 21 shortly after you both left. We saw why it was so hard for you to leave there. We found “the turtle whisperer” and enjoyed our snorkeling with sea turtles and rays. Did the needle hike too. Thanks for pointers during your time there. We enjoy your adventures all the way here from Calgary, Alberta Canada. Safe journeys… Kia Orana.

BBQ sauce, eh? The topping of the world!

I would love to send you a few bottles of our small batch specialty sauces to keep a little bit of home with ya on your travels. A way I can repay the joy I have had watching you two on your adventures. Best of all, they don’t require refrigeration. Sweet, heat and mustard should keep you covered!

    Bon Appetite!!!

Since I can’t get to the boat show, can’t afford a boat and my health forbids sun exposure anyway just show those gorgeous boats (the inside please!). I don’t even care about the gizmos (sorry Jason) since I’m pretty much a techno dork! Thanks so much for your videos. It gives me a weekly outing in the sun without the troublesome exposure. Have a happy time on land and safe sailing when you go back!

No COSTCOS on the islands? Porter Beers are my 5:00 p.m. beverage with my, you said it, Late July chips and no Total Wine and More stores on the islands? I wouldn’t survive. I have to have my Kroger Deluxe Frozen Vanilla Yogurt and blueberries and blackberries on my salad. I am a seafood person so I guess I could survive a day or two sailing the islands.

If I had returned home after being away in the South Pacific for more than a year I’d head to the nearest Polish restaurant for a taste of some traditional ethnic cooking… potato pancakes, pierogi, kielbasa, golabki, bigos, various soups, the whole shebang and paczki for dessert!

Nikki you are looking radiant, beautiful glow, must be excitement of being home.
Jason. My favorite stout beer is Moose Drool.

Thank you both for sharing your adventures.

Looking for a pre- owner boat, to boat around the Florida Keys. Moving marina to Marina and hook up to Moorings available to us.

Flat bottom? Cruiser? Catamaran? Something to live on. Have Fun.

You may want to check out coconut based (non dairy) ice creams. We have some Thai restaurants here that offer them and they are exceptional.

As for the boat show, are there any mfgs. that are building boats in a more “earth friendly”, sustainable way these days? Does anybody still build boats from wood or maybe even bamboo or similar renewables? I know it’s a big ask but I would be interested if you come across anything other than fiberglass, plastic, metal, etc. Interiors too – I read that vinyl is about the nastiest synthetic made for the planet.

Never thought I would get hooked on a sailing around the world show… But I did and I love it. I don’t think I could do without Cheeseburgers, Pizza, and all the stuff that is really not good for you. I’m really impressed how you two took the bull by the horns and made your sailing dream come true.If I ever get a boat it will have be big, have a smoke stack and room service. Be safe out there.

Boat show question. Well, actually two. Since the windows on Curiosity leak, and we’ve seen your repair the caulking a couple times, what is Leopard Catamarans doing about this design flaw? The second question is, are you replacing some of the electronic equipment? Why and with what? Ok, that was three.

Please don’t post until you get back on the water, your falling out of my top 5 sailing favorites like a anchor without a rope dropping to the bottom of the ocean. You have a lot of competition as you very well know. Maybe you need to get a bird in a cage or a baby on board, but I do love your cats. Hope to see you soon sailing the high seas, or by by for me
